Pterygium surgery

srijaneyehospital_Pterygium surgery

What is Pterygium?
Pterygium is a benign, wing-shaped growth of the conjunctiva (the clear tissue covering the white part of the eye) that extends onto the cornea. It is often caused by prolonged exposure to sunlight, dust, or wind.

Causes of Pterygium:

  • UV Light Exposure: Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays is the primary cause.
  • Dry or Dusty Environments: Irritation from wind, dust, or dry climates.
  • Chronic Eye Irritation: Ongoing irritation from environmental factors.

Why Pterygium Surgery is Done:
Surgery is recommended when the pterygium grows large enough to interfere with vision, causes discomfort, or leads to frequent irritation or redness. Removing the growth prevents further vision obstruction and restores comfort.

Treatment: Pterygium Surgery

  • Surgical Removal: The pterygium is carefully excised, and healthy tissue is grafted in its place to prevent recurrence.
  • Post-Surgery Care: Antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops are prescribed to promote healing and reduce the risk of infection.

At Srijan Eye Hospital, our skilled surgeons provide safe and effective pterygium surgery, helping restore clear vision and alleviate discomfort.
