Cataract

srijaneyehospital_Caratacta clouding of the lens of the human eye

What is a Cataract?
A cataract is the clouding of the eye’s natural lens, leading to blurred vision. It typically develops slowly and can affect one or both eyes, impairing daily activities like reading, driving, and recognizing faces.

Causes of Cataracts:

  • Aging: The most common cause, as the lens becomes less flexible and more opaque over time.
  • Injury: Eye trauma can result in cataract formation.
  • Medical Conditions: Diabetes, prolonged use of corticosteroids, and certain genetic disorders increase the risk.
  • Radiation or UV Light Exposure: Excessive exposure can damage the lens and lead to cataracts.
  • Smoking and Alcohol: These habits can accelerate cataract formation.

Why Cataract Surgery is Done:

Cataract surgery is performed to restore clear vision when cataracts impair everyday tasks like reading, driving, or watching TV. As cataracts worsen, they can lead to complete vision loss if untreated. The surgery involves replacing the cloudy lens with an artificial one to improve vision.

Treatment for Cataracts:

  • Cataract Surgery: The most effective treatment, where the cloudy lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens (intraocular lens).
  • Eyewear Adjustments: In early stages, new glasses or magnifying lenses may temporarily help.

At Srijan Eye Hospital, we offer advanced cataract treatment with state-of-the-art technology to ensure safe and effective outcomes for our patients.
